Let us send hope and light to our nation.
Background
Originally conceived as a way for DC residents to meaningfully participate in the inauguration during COVID when most people can’t attend as they have in prior years, the original idea was to line the streets of DC across all 8 wards with luminarias as a message of light and hope to the nation. With the help of a working group made up of people from across the city, the idea took shape and grew to include illuminating the city in creative ways. After the attack on the Capitol, the concept has had to adapt to the ever-changing situation and escalating security concerns. In light of this, the concept has shifted to an event that all residents can do safely from home.
